Inspired by the vision of the Ukrainian-born writer Mykola Gogol, the Foundation seeks to reveal hidden truths and explore the unseen aspects of human nature — helping societies reflect, cultivate compassion, and evolve toward transformation

Cultural diplomacy

Founded in 2018 in Amsterdam, in the heart of the documentary world, the Gogol Foundation emerged as a platform for cultural diplomacy through film and art. It supports artistic projects with global appeal via financial consulting, co-production guidance, and industry mentorship. Acting as a bridge between Europe, MENA, and now the United States, the Foundation helps filmmakers access funding opportunities, workshops, and talent exchanges. Beyond film promotion, the Foundation participates in international advocacy forums—including Side Events of the UN General Assembly, the Assembly of States Parties at the International Criminal Court, and COP30—where it provides documentary evidence of ecological crimes, social injustice, and human-rights violations.

Film production

Gogol Film, the production house of the Gogol Foundation, focuses on films that shape human values and foster global understanding. Reorganized in 2022 in the Creative City of Łódź, it has contributed to works presented at Sundance, IDFA, CPH:DOX, FIFDH Geneva, DOK Leipzig, and Karlovy Vary. Among its collaborators are Oscar®-winning Mstyslav Chernov, Oscar®-shortlisted Mohammed Almughanni, and multi-Grammy-winning composer Sam Slater. Gogol Film provides a structured framework for independent co-productions that combine artistic integrity with international reach and impact. It has been honored for its contributions to UNESCO’s cultural mission, reinforcing its commitment to creativity as a force for empathy, dialogue and peace.
